Nature Treasure – Layout by Evy

Hello creative friends,
How happy am I that autumn has arrived? You can’t imagine! One of my many passions is taking long walks with my husband and dogs to pick mushrooms. We’re experts, and my husband even has an official mushroom picking license. So when I saw the Curiosities collection in Willow Grove, full of mushrooms and autumnal, forest-like decorations, I couldn’t wait to take lots of photos on one of our outings… and that time has finally arrived!

In this project, most likely the first of a series, you can see the photo of our basket at the beginning of the walk: not just mushrooms but also beautiful leaves for creative projects and home decor. I was immediately captivated by the pairing with this paper, with its vintage, botanical feel and the perfect colors to enhance the photo.
I didn’t want to cover the paper too much, since it was so beautiful, nor cut it, so I decided to use it whole and create a huge cluster of photos and embellishments so as not to overwhelm it.

First, I added journaling bits and a frame under the photo to add movement and depth to the photo, allowing me to add lots of embellishments between the various “layers.”

Photos are often deceiving and I get a bad photo but with the right perspective to capture all the layers and the alternation of the paper, vellum and acetate diecuts.

For some embellishments, I even had fun completely overlapping them, like the acetate tape measure over the diecuts with the definition. Then I continued with the diecuts, lasercuts, and diecuts with foil details. Mushrooms and butterflies completed the whole thing, along with these super cute acetate clips!

I wanted to play with tone-on-tone colors, both with the embellishments and the photo, and I have to say this layout is one of my favorites. This patterned paper makes everything special.

I hope I’ve inspired you for some fall projects or nature walks, but be careful with mushrooms; many are inedible; collect them responsibly. In photos, however, the poisonous ones are almost always the most photogenic!
