Hi friends, and welcome back to the 49 and Market blog!

It’s Rebecca here today, and I’m so excited to share my first layout using Vicki’s brand-new collection — Curiosities in Willow Grove. My initial reaction to this collection was a big “wow!” It’s absolutely packed with gorgeous elements, and I couldn’t wait to dive in and start creating.

To begin, I chose a patterned paper to use as my background. I’m often drawn to the more subtle designs — the ones with delicate, understated details that don’t overpower the page. Once I had my background selected, I reached for the brand-new 49 and Market x Ranger Ink Pads. These are so fun to use and such a great addition to any mixed media stash!

I picked out two shades: Green Jean and Fossil. I watered them down slightly on some packaging and then used a scouring sponge to dab the inks onto my background. This technique creates such a lovely, textured effect. Once the ink was dry, I was ready to start building my layout.

I began by selecting some larger pieces from the Journaling Bits set, layering them vertically in the center of the page. To add more interest and dimension, I built up these layers using Laser Cut strips and elements from the Foiled Die-Cut Assortment, placing foam tape between the layers for depth.

The photo I chose for this layout features a backdrop of rich, autumnal leaves — so I wanted to carry that theme through onto the page. I fussy-cut a variety of leaves from one of the patterned papers and arranged them along the left side of the photo. I made sure to mix different sizes and colours to reflect the natural variation in the photo.

To enhance the leafy cluster, I added some vellum die-cuts from the Foiled Die-Cut Assortment. I love how combining different textures — paper, vellum, and foil — adds depth and visual interest. I finished this cluster by placing my title on top, using a chipboard piece from the Chipboard Bits pack.

As a final touch, I added some Rub-On Transfers to tie everything together and elevate the mixed media feel of the background.
