Hello fellow 49 & Market Friends!
It’s Nikki Sher back to show you a fun home décor piece I made using the Birdsong Collection. I’ve had this hanging piece in my crop room for ages and I just didn’t know what I wanted to do with it! So, I recently spray painted it white (from birch) and all of a sudden, I wanted to create with it. Isn’t it funny how a small change like a color can make you want to work with something that has been sitting in your stash for a few years?

For this piece, I wanted to create something that I could hang year round and had all the colors of the photos I wanted to work with. Birdsong seemed to be the right fit! And since most of the photos I used were taken outside in nature, the flowers and birds worked well with my photos.

First, I started by choosing which patterned paper I wanted to work with. The Chirps of Beauty paper had all the right colors and the back is that beautiful pink/peach that went so well with my photos. After framing my photos with the Color Swatch Terracotta Frame Set, I went looking for something to ground my photos in place on the paper. I found the perfect pieces in the Ephemera Bits set. And the frames fit perfectly inside the white space!

After that, I treated each section as its own little layout adding in my favorite ephemera and laser cut pieces. When making a home décor piece like this, dimension is key! I wanted to make sure you could really see each image floating off the page so I used a few layers of foam tape to achieve this effect.

I just love how this piece came out! I had originally intended it as a gift, but I think I might have to keep it for myself!
