Hello fellow 49 and Market Friends and Happy Holidays!
It’s Nikki Sher back to share another project I made using the 49 and Market Mistletoe and Memories Collection designed by Vicki Boutin. This collection is perfect for documenting your upcoming holiday traditions as well as all your Christmas crafting. I can’t wait to show you what I created with it!

Crafting in one of my favorite things to do during the holidays – especially Christmas crafting! I love making Christmas home décor pieces and gifting them to my friends and family during the holiday season. One of my favorite home décor pieces to make are Advent or Christmas Countdown Calendars.

I love the idea of being able to add my photos to a project and then keep it as a display piece to showcase year after year. It’s so fun having these out on the mantle or coffee table for people to pick up and flip through. Plus it’s a fun conversation starter at parties!

For this calendar I used a pre-made display box with coordinating mini manila envelopes. There are a few different styles of each design in my box. To complete the 25 day countdown, I added a few of the larger ephemera pieces from the Journaling Bits Set – the snow globe, clipboard, scroll, postcard and library card. I loved the way this broke up the pattern in my box and added in a few fun decorative pages. I wanted this to be as interactive as possible so while some are single pages, most have pockets and tags. There are even a few interactive pages with shaker windows and pop out elements!

Once I had the basic order and layout together, I began by decorating each manila piece as its own page or day in my calendar. To decorate each page I used the 6×8 Collection Pack, Staples Paper 1 (3×4 Cards) and Staples Paper 10 (Tags). The scaled down images from the 6×8 Collection Pack are perfect for smaller projects like this one. The next step was to embellish!

For the main embellishments in the calendar I used the Laser Cut Elements, Cardstock Stickers and Journaling Bits. To complete the date or countdown aspect of my calendar I used the Chipboard Bit Numbers – they are just perfect for a project like this. Each page has its own mini scene or theme, finished off with the date. I made sure to not use any permanent adhesive where the embellishment covers my photo area so that I can easily go in and add my photo for each upcoming day in December. I also left the back of each page or tag empty so that I can either add additional photos or journaling.

I loved making this Advent Calendar for this upcoming holiday season and I can’t wait to add my photos each day! I hope I’ve given you a few ideas to try when creating your Christmas Crafts. What are you planning to make this season?
