Willow Tags & Cards by Nikki Sher

Hello fellow 49 & Market Friends!

Willow Tags & Cards by Nikki Sher

It’s Nikki Sher here to show you some fun tags I made using the brand new Color Swatch Willow Collection. I’ve loved making these tags lately – I think they are a fun size and something to push me a little out of my comfort zone! Sometimes I need that push to keep the creative juices flowing.

To make the tags, I start with a standard #8 office tag and choose my papers. I want to choose papers that both show off the collection and will let the embellishments pop once I add them. Sometimes having a more subtle pattern where the embellishments sit is a better choice. One of the things I love about the tags is that I can add all the dimension I want! On some of these tags, I have up to 4 layers of foam tape! It’s fun being able to play with dimension like that.

To decorate my tags I started with the Rub-On Transfer Set. I wanted to create a nice background layer for my embellishments to sit on. I then mixed up the Acetate Assortment and Laser Cut Elements to add lots of texture to each tag. I love mixing up the type of ephemera used as it creates added interest to your project.

Now a lot of people ask me, what do you do with your tags? Sometimes I add them to presents or packaging as a way to style it up. Other times I create a banner with it to display on my mantle. Another great way to use them is in tiered trays – they look great with other seasonal items around them! Alternatively, these tags are almost the same size as a mini slimline card! And you can easily alter the papers to fit that size. Here I’ve created the cards using the same patterned papers, Rub On Transfers, Acetate Assortment and Laser Cut Elements. Don’t they look great!?

In addition to the layers of foam tape, I also love creating dimension with those butterflies. Check out the wings on both the Acetate and Laser Cut Elements – see how dimensional they are? For the Laser Cut Elements, I take my bone folder and carefully curl the wings. Once I have them to my liking, I put a strip of foam tape under the highest part of the wings. When I glue it to my tag or card I only glue down the body of the butterfly, leaving the wings to sit up on the foam tape I already added. It’s a great way to make them look like they are flying right off the page!

When using the acetate butterflies I start by folding them in half. This gives you great height on the wings! To attach them to the tag or card, I use a mini stapler and nest that staple right into the fold. I love attaching acetate with a stapler – it adds such and unexpected but pleasing texture to your project!

I just love how versatile this collection is and making these tags and cards was such a fun way to use the product! It definitely got my creative juices flowing!
