This Moment – Layout by Michelle Lee

Hello, Everyone!
Today I’m here to inspire you with the oh so gorgeous Color Swatch Charcoal Collection. I chose paper 2 and the bonus sheet from the collection as my base. I think the soft gray background worked well with my photo.

I started with a coat of clear gesso on the background in case I decided to do any mixed media. While that was drying I began building my layers under the photo. For that I grabbed a few different pieces from the Color Swatch Charcoal Ephemera Stackers pack. Once I was happy with the layers I glued them together, then mounted them on a thin piece of cardboard for more dimension. After my background had dried, I did a sloppy tear across the bottom and distressed the top. Then I used some of the 49 & Market Stitching Essentials 02 along the edge. I then glued it to the bonus sheet and slightly curled the torn edge for more dimension and texture. To add color to the background that would compliment the photo I used Tim Holtz Distress Oxide in Kitsch Flamingo and Shimmerz Coloringz in A Shade of Gray.

I then began building my flower clusters. I chose the Royal Spray in Bashful as well as Royal Posies in Bashful. I also pulled some leaves, tickets, butterflies, and heart shaped buttons from the Color Swatch Charcoal Laser Cut Elements pack to work into the clusters. To frame the photo I chose chipboard frames that I colored using Shimmers Vibez in Before Dawn and Lindy’s Glitz Spritz in Steel Shimmer. I think they really helped the soft pink flowers pop off the page.

I decided the design needed a bit more so I grabbed a pack of the Spectrum Gardenia 6×8 rub-ons, adding them randomly around the photo and flower clusters. They are the perfect way to subtly add interest to a design I think.

As a finishing touch I added some art stones, and a few tiny star sequins to my clusters for a bit more detail and texture.
