Hello everyone & welcome back to the 49 and Market blog.
Today I’m excited to share a new layout created with the gorgeous Nostalgic Memories collection—a line that feels like it was made for documenting treasured family photos. For this project, I chose a sweet vintage photograph of my mom, and the soft, timeworn colours in the collection paired with delicate florals were the perfect match.
I began by tearing two patterned papers from the 12×12 collection pack, layering them together to build a textured base. I love the imperfect, organic look of torn edges—they instantly add softness and a sense of age that complements vintage photos beautifully. Between the layers, I tucked in bits of lace trim and a couple of doilies for extra detail and dimension.
To balance the composition, I created a small cluster on the left edge of the page, then carried those design elements across to the right-hand side, using inks and texture paste. This created a subtle mixed-media bridge that ties both sides of the layout together. Once the background was fully prepped, I added my larger photo cluster, building it up with embellishments tucked between the layers.
One of my favourite parts of this collection is the variety of coordinating embellishments. I incorporated pieces from the laser-cut florals, laser-cut ephemera, the ephemera & frames pack, and even a few chipboard words to add depth and interest. Each piece fit so effortlessly that the clusters practically built themselves.
To finish, I applied plenty of the rub-on transfers across the background. These transfers add such beautiful detail without bulk—you can layer them under or over other elements, and they blend seamlessly into the page. They truly brought the whole design together and helped enhance that nostalgic, memory-filled feeling.
