Catch The Wave – Layout by Rebecca

Hi Friends,

It’s Rebecca here on the blog today, and I’m so excited to share my very first layout using the brand-new Beach Vibes collection, designed by Dennis Bruton! This collection is bursting with fun and vibrant elements—just perfect for documenting those sunny, beachy memories.

For my background, I chose one of the 12×12 cardstocks from the Basics pack. I love how the subtle ripples in the design mirror the waves in my photo—it was the perfect match! I’ve always had a soft spot for lighthouses, so I was thrilled to find one in the Laser Cut Elements. I simply couldn’t wait to use it! I added it to my background, raising it on foam for a touch of dimension.

Since the lighthouse stands about 5 inches tall, I opted for a landscape-oriented photo to help balance the layout and avoid a blocky feel. I matted the photo with white cardstock to make it pop, then layered a wooden frame behind it, slightly overlapping the lighthouse for a cohesive look.

Embellishing this layout was a joy—there were so many gorgeous pieces to choose from! I pulled a mix of elements from both the Die Cut Elements and Laser Cut Elements, arranging them into two clusters on either side of the photo and lighthouse. I placed the taller pieces closer to the center and tapered down to smaller elements toward the edges for a visually pleasing flow.

To add a little extra detail above the photo, I layered in a tag from the Die Cut Elements and threaded it with metallic gold thread for added texture and shine.

For the title, I couldn’t resist the chipboard phrases—so many of them would’ve worked beautifully with this layout! I finally settled on ‘Catch the wave’ and placed it beneath the photo, right along the base of the lighthouse.

I have to mention the rub-on transfers in this collection—they’re absolutely amazing! I couldn’t help adding a few. Rub-ons are a quick and mess-free way to add detail and interest to your background, and they blended in beautifully here.

To finish the layout, I added a few final touches—some twirls of the same gold thread I used on the tag, another chipboard phrase, and a handful of those adorable new puffy stickers. And because I can never resist just a little more, I topped it all off with white paint splatters to tie everything together.
