Hi friends!
It’s Rebecca here, back on the blog and excited to share my second layout using the gorgeous new collections by Joanne Bain. Little Dreamers and Little Celebrations coordinate beautifully—combining soft elegance with just the right touch of cute!

For this layout, I was really in the mood for something minimal, with lots of white space. I chose a sheet of premium white cardstock as my background and pulled out a couple of Distress Oxide inks for a subtle mixed media touch. I always like to plan my composition first before committing to any background work—I find it’s easier to decide where mixed media should go once all the elements are loosely in place. I build my layout as I go, sticking pieces together temporarily so I can lift the whole design on and off the page to assess placement.
To begin, I cut several circles from patterned papers and halved them to create semi-circles. Once I’d positioned my photos, I arranged the semi-circles in a vertical line down the page. The design felt like it needed some anchoring, so I trimmed a darker strip from the Laser Cuts packaging and stitched it behind the shapes for contrast and depth.

At the centre—where my two photos meet—I clustered some floral laser cut pieces from the Little Celebrations collection. I also added an adorable elephant from the Little Dreamers laser cuts. I love how the soft greys in the embellishments mirror the tones in my photos.

For the title, I chose a chipboard word and placed it just below the top photo, slightly off-centre. I love how sturdy these chipboard pieces are—they’re often my go-to for titles because they add dimension and hold their shape beautifully.

With the layout assembled, I could clearly see where I wanted to add my mixed media. Using a pencil, I lightly traced around the design to mark out the areas. Then, using two Distress Oxide inks and the packaging technique, I applied ink to four small spots across the page. Just enough to add interest without overwhelming the clean feel of the layout.

I’m so happy with how this page turned out—it came together just like the picture I had in my head, which doesn’t always happen! I hope you love it too.
