Hello friends and welcome to the 49 and Market blog!
It’s Rebecca with you today sharing my first layout of December, which I’ve created using the sublime Evergreen Season collection.

I started by layering some of the larger cards from the Ephemera pack, selecting a mix of colours. On top of these, I placed my photo, housed in one of the gorgeous Chipboard Frames. I adore woodgrain alongside traditional Christmas colours as it reminds me of a wood fireplace! I was careful to adhere all these pieces together, but not to my background, so that I could remove it all easily later to add some mixed media.

In between the layers of cards I slotted in some floral elements. I love that all 49 and Market collections come with so many different embellishments packs because it means there is always so much to choose from! I selected florals from the Acetate Assortment, the Wildflower Laser Cuts and the Chipboard Set, giving several different textures on the page.

With the florals in place, I then added some elements from the Laser Cut Elements and some Chipboard Words to form my title.

With the main bulk of my layout now built and adhered together, I turned my attention to the background.

I marked lightly with a pencil where everything will sit so I could clearly see where to add mixed media. I started with a brayer and added some black ink to the white cardstock. I started in the centre of the page and moved out so that the ink wasn’t too dark on the areas that would be visible. On top of this, I added some holly leaf stamping using some of the Sizzix and 49 and Market Stamps. I finished off the messy part of the background with some dramatic black splatters.

Then, I added some torn strips of the Washi Sheet to add further detail to the background.

Next, I applied some colour using some of the Essentials Rub On Transfers. I also applied some of the new fun Alphabet rub-ons. I selected some random letters from the Farmhouse set, and applied them really roughly so that only parts transfered to my background, giving a more grungy look.

Before returning all the elements onto the background, I added some black and white ribbon running down either side of the main design to help tie the layout and the mixed media together.
