Hello fellow 49 and Market Friends!
It’s Nikki Sher here to show you a spectacular Envelope Pocket Folio I made using the brand new Birdsong Collection. I really love these Folios because they make a great mini album but they also fit into the Foundation Albums. This way, if you want to make the album larger later on, you can add to it.
When I saw this collection, I immediately fell in love! The colors in this line are right up my alley – peachy pink and teal! Then add in birds, nests and flowers – Yes please! Give me all of it!
I wanted to make something that would show off this beautiful paper but also give me plenty of room to embellish. Using the 12×12 Birdsong Collection Pack, I chose which paper I wanted for my cover, inside cover and inserts. When choosing a cover patterned paper I usually end up with one that has all or most of the colors of the collection in it. This gives you a preview of each color represented inside the album.
Once all my papers were in place, I added photo mats using the 12×12 Birdsong Solids Collection Pack. Using these as place holders for my photos, I then began adding ephemera from the Laser Cut Elements, Wildflower Laser Cuts and Ephemera Bits. I also used words from the Chipboard Mixed Set for the title on my cover.
Layering the laser cut ephemera is probably my favorite go to technique. I usually pick a few flowers and a focal image (like a bird cage) and then ground this on a solid image like a label or doily. After that I’ll add my sentiment and something small like a bird or butterfly. Creating this cluster is so visually appealing and will draw the viewer in to your image.

I love this album. It’s beautiful. I just wondered. I know you didn’t feature photos in this blog post but when we are making this at home, do you suggest putting the photos down first and then adding the femora and stickers and other decorations putting them over the photos or is it Best to put the photos right on top of the ephemera?
Great question! If possible, I would add the photos first. If you can’t, simply only glue the ephemera down where it won’t interfere with your photo placement. Once the photo is in place, adhere the ephemera down the rest of the way. I hope this helps answer your question! Thank you for looking! Best, Nikki
