Special Day – Layout by Michelle Lee

Hello, 49 & Market Fans.
Michelle here with you today. This is my first time joining you on the blog and I’m so happy to share my first layout as part of the 49 and Market design team for 2024.

Special Day - Layout by Michelle Lee

For this layout, I chose paper #5 from the new gorgeous Color Swatch Teal Collection as my base. I absolutely love the soft teal tones in this collection.I started my background work with a few splatters of black acrylic paint and some random stamping. While that was drying I moved on to creating my photo layers. I created the mat for my photo using elements from the Teal Ephemera Stackers Pack. I inked the edges of the grayish layers with Tim Holtz distress ink in Pumice Stone. The teal elements were very lightly inked using distress ink in Peacock Feathers. After mounting the photo on a piece of thin cardboard I adhered it to two layers of the gray ephemera. For the chipboard frame, I simply gave it a coat of white gesso to give it texture, and then once it dried I applied white gold metallic wax paste. The frame was then mounted on thin cardboard to add even more dimension. I then tucked a few layers of elements from the ephemera pack under the chipboard on both sides of the photo.

For my clusters I used the Royal Spray flower packs in Ivory and Ocean Jade. Starting with the larger cluster first, I layered the flowers on a piece of distressed cheesecloth. Next I tucked in a few tickets and leaf/flower elements from the Color Swatch Teal Laser Cut Elements pack. To frame the photo I created a second smaller cluster to the left of the photo.

In the top left corner of my design I created a small cluster to help balance the composition. I started building the cluster with a chipboard base to match the one around the photo. I layered a few flowers, allowing a couple tags to dangle down from the flowers. A perfect resting place for a little butterfly.

To add more interest and detail I then added a few rub-ons from the Teal 6×12 Rub-ons pack to the background and clusters. I chose the title “Special Day” from the rub-ons pack as well. Finally adding some finishing touches by adding just a few sequins and art stones to the clusters for some added detail.
