Hi 49 & Market-eers! Nancy Wethington here and it’s my turn to share my first 49 & Market Design Team layout with you. I love this photo. Reminds me of when my son was little and collected heart shaped rocks for me. And, of course, he has my heart, always. Couldn’t resist using this with the beautiful 49 & Market Rouge Colored Foundations
I begin any layout with a photo and try to draw in the colors and theme of the photo into anything else added to the layout. Loved these little arms circling the tree trunk with a heart, so I concentrated on bringing out the heart. And it is almost Valentine’s Day!
After choosing my background paper from the Rouge Colored Foundations, I chose other elements from the same collection and “dry fitted” to the layout. Dry fitting for me means that I might cut something out without gluing and simply place it around the photo (or wherever I decide I think it should go). This allows me to move things around without committing.
The following photo shows some of the pieces used in this layout. Once I’ve chosen what I think I want to use, I start layering on the main background page. But the photo is not attached at this point because some of the elements will be behind the photo, like these gorgeous, easy to use transfer sheets.
After deciding to use a mat for my photo, I put a tiny bit of glue on the center of the photo and attached it just to the center of the mat. This allows me to do a lot of element tucking underneath the photo. I do like the colors to be distributed throughout the photo, so I added bits of Rouge Foundations Transfer Sheets throughout, like the green in the upper right corner and the red flower in the lower right corner. I think it allows your eye to move around the page.
But we all know the photo is the most important. So to draw more attention to the photo, I saved the branding strip cut from the 12×12 base paper and added Transfer Sheet “x’s” for kisses across the branding strip and layed it parallel with the heart in the photo. I also used a chipboard element as an arrow. (see photo above). The tree trunk was the only brown in this layout but to draw attention to that, especially since it holds the heart, I used the Wildflowers with the brown center and stems.
